Men charged for pointing guns at new homebuyers

PORTERDALE, Ga. (AP) – A man and his son are facing charges after sheriff’s officials say they held guns on the new owners of a neighboring home, who were changing the locks.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (

The charges come after Newton County sheriff’s deputies initially praised 45-year-old Robert Canoles and his son for their actions. Authorities say they grabbed semiautomatic rifles and snuck up behind the couple, 61-year-old Jean-Joseph Kalonji and his 57-year-old wife Angelica. The two were fiddling with the locks when the father and son held them at gunpoint.

Deputies then booked the couple into jail when they couldn’t show paperwork proving they owned the house. Charges against the Kalonjis were later dropped.
