NEW YORK (AP) – A former Secret Service agent and U.S. Senate candidate says the agents under investigation for hiring prostitutes in Colombia while preparing for President Barack Obama’s visit “will pay for this forever.”
Daniel Bongino served in the Secret Service under three presidents and is now running for U.S. Senate in Maryland.
He told The Associated Press on Tuesday that his brother, a Secret Service agent, was in Colombia. He says his brother is assisting the military inquiry into charges that agents brought prostitutes to a Cartagena hotel.
Bongino would not give his brother’s name, saying he didn’t want to identify the other men by association.
Bongino says his brother is not a target of the investigation, but is helping the government figure out what happened. Bongino called it “a public relations disaster” for the Secret Service.
