Apr 15, 2012, 1:05 AM

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. (AP) – Authorities say a Fort Campbell soldier has been apprehended in Georgia after a high-speed chase in connection with the fatal shooting of his wife at the Kentucky Army post.

Fort Campbell officials said in a news release that the suspect had shot himself and was in critical condition Saturday evening.

The names of the suspect and the victim were being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Army officials said they were responding to a report of domestic dispute on post-housing Friday evening when they discovered the body of the soldier’s wife. The suspect was apprehended after a chase involving Georgia State Police.

Bartow Sheriff Clark Millsap said the suspect reached speeds of up to 120 mph before being forced to stop near Lake Allatoona just before 3 a.m. The 80-plus-mile chase began in Hamilton County, Tenn.
