Apr 5, 2012, 3:19 PM

MIAMI (AP) – Police say a teenager has confessed to killing his mother in their South Florida apartment.

According to Miami-Dade Police, officers found the woman’s body Wednesday after her boyfriend told authorities that no one had heard from her in more than a week.

Investigators say the decomposing body was found in a bedroom. A cause of death has not been determined.

The woman lived in the apartment with her sons, ages 16 and 3. The boys had been living in the apartment for several days with the body.

Police say the teen has confessed to killing his mother, and charges were pending Thursday. The younger child was placed with relatives.

Police had been called to the apartment on two previous occasions, but officials would not confirm the details of those visits.
