Attempted robbery lands suspect on life support
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – Police in Louisiana say an attempted robbery was foiled when the victim slammed his car in reverse and caused an accident that critically injured one of the perpetrators.
Baton Rouge Police Cpl. L’Jean Mckneely Jr. says the victim was sitting in his parked car Thursday when a man got into the passenger seat without permission.
A second armed man came up to the window and demanded money. The driver quickly backed up into traffic and was struck by two vehicles.
Police say 23-year-old Kelvin Armstead was ejected from the passenger seat. No one else was hurt. Armstead was eventually placed on life support for organ donation, at his family’s request.
An arrest warrant has been issued for his suspected accomplice, 23-year-old Ahmad Beauchamp.
Police don’t plan to charge the driver.
