NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (AP) – Authorities say an 83-year-old woman was run over and killed by her own car as she was checking her mail at her South Carolina home.
Investigators said Margaret Phillips thought she parked her car in her driveway and went to her mailbox Wednesday evening in North Augusta, about 70 miles southwest of Columbia. But the car was still in gear and rolled down her steep driveway.
Authorities say a neighbor called police after seeing Phillips’ 2006 Lincoln Town Car in her front yard, and officers then found her. She died a short time later at the hospital.
The coroner’s office says Phillips died from several injuries.
