Ohio hillside that had rockslide will be monitored

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) – Officials say there’s potential for another rockslide along a southeast Ohio hillside where a boulder weighing roughly 100 tons crushed a car and damaged a home, utility poles, a water line and other vehicles.
The city said Thursday that crews don’t believe there’s an immediate threat. Monitoring pins have been installed and will be measured periodically to determine if there’s movement.
No one was hurt when the boulder, about 25-feet in diameter, crashed down on Tuesday.
Residents have been allowed to return to the damaged home and another that was evacuated. City Engineering and Public Works Director Andy Stone says those homes would be the most vulnerable in another slide. About six homes sit along the hill.
Crews began removing the boulder Thursday by breaking it with excavating equipment.
