PHOENIX — A San Tan Valley man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly abusing an 11-year-old female family member, according to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.
Timothy Barnett, 40, was arrested for reportedly striking the victim with his hand multiple times on her face and upper body on Tuesday evening.
A school teacher reported the abuse to the county after she noticed swelling and bruising on the victim’s arm and face during school on Wednesday morning.
Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said in a press release Barnett told the deputy in an interview that he hit the girl because he has problems controlling his anger.
Barnett is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.
The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office is looking into whether this incident violates the conditions of Barnett’s sex offender status.
