Records: Suspect in Afghan attack owned 2 homes

SEATTLE (AP) – A soldier accused of killing 16 Afghan civilians owned two homes in Washington state, and was selling one for far less than he paid.
Records show Robert Bales and his wife, Karilyn, bought their Lake Tapps home for $280,000 in 2005. Real-estate agent Phillip Rodocker told The Seattle Times he met with Karilyn Bales on March 9 to talk about the sale, two days before the attack.
The home was on the market Monday, listed at $229,000.
Rodocker says Karilyn Bales left a message Tuesday asking the home be pulled off the market.
Records also show the couple owns a home in Auburn, about 10 miles north. The homeowner’s association president says they abandoned the home about two years ago. Signs on the front door warn against occupying the house.
