PHOENIX — A Philly-based on-demand delivery startup to rival Google Express and Amazon Prime rolled into the East Valley this month.
GoPuff, a delivery app startup created by millennials, for millennials, will offer Tempe, Scottsdale, and Mesa residents thousands of products in 30 minutes or less.
“We offer the same price as convenience stores but with affordable, delivery convenience without the upcharge,” co-founder Rafael Ilishayev told the Phoenix Business Journal. “We deliver anything you can get from a convenience store, plus electronics and home products.”
The on-demand delivery company is looking to hire at least 100 delivery drivers, who can earn up to $140 per eight-hour shift plus tips.
GoPuff’s delivery fee is $1.95, with free delivery for orders over $49.
The idea came from two roommates at Drexel College in Philadelphia and got its name from the products they first started delivering: hookah and shisha. The name stuck because the founders felt it reflected the company’s humble beginnings while personifying its edgy, disruptive character.
GoPuff offers a huge range of products, including everything from red party cups, Plan B, iPhone chargers, toiletries and even hoverboards.
Part of the reason goPuff’s service is so cheap is that they sell their own products rather than delivering from other stores. The delivery company houses its products in a 5,000-square-foot warehouse near Arizona State University’s Tempe campus.
