UNITED NATIONS (AP) – Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will host a ministerial meeting Monday of the Quartet of Mideast peace mediators.
The U.N. announced Friday that the meeting of the Quartet _ the U.S., U.N., European Union and Russia _ will take place on the sidelines of a Security Council ministerial meeting on the challenges following last year’s Arab Spring.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Russian Foreign Minister are scheduled to attend the council meeting and will also hold bilateral talks which are expected to focus on the yearlong Syria conflict.
The Quartet, which last met in September, has been seeking to revive stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace talks and reach a negotiated solution by the end of the year that would create a Palestinian state.
