JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) – President Barack Obama will speak at the commencement ceremony Monday for graduating seniors whose town was devastated by deadly tornadoes.
Obama’s remarks in Joplin, Mo. fall on the eve of the one-year anniversary of the tornado that killed 161 people. Joplin High School was destroyed in the tornado and the graduating class spent their senior year taking classes in a converted department store.
The president visited the Missouri city in the days after the tornado struck to tour the devastation and meet with residents.
Obama will arrive in Joplin on Monday evening after wrapping up four days of international summits, including the NATO conference in Chicago.
