Clinton: Encouraged by reports in Egypt

WASHINGTON (AP) – Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says the United States is encouraged by reports out of Egypt that the travel ban has been lifted for seven American pro-democracy workers.
Clinton declined to elaborate on a delicate and fast-moving diplomatic situation. She testified before the House Foreign Affairs Committee Wednesday.
Clinton said the U.S. had no confirmation of reports that Egypt had agreed to lift the ban on the seven, including the son of U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. The seven are among 16 Americans on trial along with 27 others on charges of using illegally obtained funds to foment unrest in Egypt.
