NH State Police protect bald eagles in highway

Feb 27, 2012, 12:37 PM

BEDFORD, N.H. (AP) – Two bald eagles are back in the wild courtesy of a New Hampshire State Police trooper after they spent an hour in the middle of a major highway.

The birds were spotted on Route 101 in Bedford just after dawn on Sunday, forcing a trooper to close a lane of traffic.

The trooper diverted traffic around the eagles.

Officials say the birds became agitated as cars went by, causing them to inch toward the high-speed lane.

WMUR-TV (

There’s no word on what prompted the eagles to land on the highway.
