CINCINNATI (AP) – Elections officials in southwest Ohio have come up with a quick ballot fix after the death of a coroner candidate running unopposed in a Democratic primary.
Hamilton County officials said Wednesday they’ll avoid a costly reprinting of thousands of ballots and still follow state law while getting the name of a replacement candidate for Dr. Anant Bahti (ah-NAHNT’ BAH’-tee) before voters.
Bahti in 2010 was appointed coroner in Hamilton County, whose county seat is Cincinnati. He was seeking his party’s nomination in the March 6 primary to run for his first full term when he died last week after a fall.
Elections officials will put the replacement candidate’s name on reprinted paper ballots for early voters. Those voting on Election Day will use electronic machines instead of the usual paper ballots.
