NEW YORK (AP) – The judges for Long Island University’s George Polk Awards in Journalism will posthumously honor New York Times correspondent Anthony Shadid.
Shadid, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, died Thursday of an apparent asthma attack. He was in Syria while reporting on the uprising against its president.
Shadid, who previously worked for The Associated Press, earned the George Polk Award for Foreign Reporting in 2003.
LIU will announce the winners of the 2011 George Polk Awards in Journalism on Monday.
Shadid will be honored with the other winners at a luncheon on April 5.
