REDMOND, Wash. (AP) – A 21-year-old man faces charges after authorities say he fired a shot at a party in suburban Seattle that went through a wall and killed a woman in the next room.
Court papers say Cornelius DeJong IV of the east Seattle suburb of Redmond was charged with first-degree manslaughter Monday in Superior Court. He is accused of firing a .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun at a Redmond house party early Sunday.
Police say the bullet traveled through a wall and struck 20-year-old Claire Thompson of Seattle, who was standing on the other side.
She was later pronounced dead at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Neighbors reported hearing a loud party at the house. They say the woman who owns the home allows her grandson to live there.
