Report: Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake backs John Kasich over Donald Trump, Ted Cruz

PHOENIX — At least one Arizona politician reportedly feels the fight for the White House is not over for John Kasich.
Though he stopped short of endorsing the Ohio governor, Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) told Bloomberg News he would prefer Kasich over his Republican rivals for the party’s nomination: Donald Trump and Ted Cruz.
“Kasich’s still there,” Flake told reporters. “If I were Kasich I’d do exactly what he’s doing: get to the convention with some delegates.”
Though Kasich drastically trails both Cruz and Trump in the delegate count, Flake said the race “is not over yet.”
Flake is the only major Arizona politician to throw any support behind Kasich’s campaign. Two state representatives and a former state representative have officially endorsed Kasich’s campaign.
Former Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley has also pledged his support for Kasich.
It’s worth noting that Flake’s support of Kasich is not an official endorsement. The senator had previously endorsed Marco Rubio’s run for the White House.
However, Rubio’s campaign came to a close last month after he lost the primary in his home state of Florida to Trump.
