JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Authorities say a convicted killer who went missing after being pardoned by former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour was in Wyoming with his fiance and tried to flee when he was found by investigators.
Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood said Monday that Joseph Ozment tried to flee Sunday when investigators tracked him to a hotel in Laramie, Wyo. Hood says Ozment’s Mercedes bumped one of the investigators, but that he later returned on foot and was served with a court summons.
A judge had ordered Ozment and four other pardoned inmates who had worked at the Governor’s Mansion to check in after Hood requested a temporary restraining order. Ozment missed a court hearing last week.
The summons requires him to show up for court hearings and check in every 24 hours with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
