PHOENIX — Who knew it was so rock-and-roll to invest in professional soccer teams? Fall Out Boy member Pete Wentz has joined the likes of Grammy-award winning artist Diplo in investing in the Arizona United Soccer Club.
In a press release, Arizona’s only professional soccer team announced it would bring on Wentz as another musical entity-turned-investor.
Minority owner David Rappaport said in the release that he is looking forward to working with Wentz and his management team.
“It’s impossible to not be a fan of Pete’s, and Crush (Management) are among the most well-respected and forward thinking companies in the music and entertainment space today,” the release read. “Myself and co-chairs Kyle Eng and Brett Johnson are very excited to have all of them on board with us.”
Diplo, who announced his investment in January, said in the release Wentz is the “perfect” type of investor who will grow the team within the United Soccer League.
“Pete is a perfect match for the type of investor our team wants as we continue to grow in the USL and begin our strong push to take Arizona United to MLS,” the release read. “The state of Arizona and city of Phoenix deserve nothing less.”
The Arizona United Soccer Club will play its first home match of the 2016 season on Sunday against the Mexican National Under-20 team and will kick off its USL home opener on April 30 against the Portland Timbers 2.
