New charges filed against woman in Utah-Nev. spree

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Authorities on Wednesday filed new charges against a Utah woman suspected in a crime spree involving burglary, shootings and car theft across Utah and Nevada.

The new allegations underscore a case complicated by incomplete charges and dueling arrest warrants from authorities in Utah and Nevada against a pair of suspects that at times acted together and apart, and sometimes with a circle of friends in weeklong alleged crime spree. Authorities say they aren’t finished filing charges or adding defendants.

The latest charges involve Angela Atwood, 25, who is being held in Nevada after she was arrested walking with a Utah man in the Nevada desert on Jan. 3. Both face multiple felony charges stemming from a botched carjacking.

The man, 24-year-old Logan McFarland, also has been charged in a Utah burglary at the home of a retired Mount Pleasant couple who were found shot to death Dec. 31. Authorities, who have yet to file charges for the deaths, had initially believed the crime spree started with those killings.

Atwood faces new charges in the burglary of another Mount Pleasant home on Dec. 28. An affidavit for her arrest implicates McFarland and another woman in the same burglary, though neither has been charged for that crime.

Atwood’s lawyer, Frederick Lee, a Nevada public defender, said neither he nor his client were familiar with the latest charges from Utah. Lee said he could offer no comment about any of the charges against her.

McFarland’s Nevada lawyer, Gary Woodbury, also declined to comment.

Sanpete County Sheriff’s deputies in Utah said their investigation places McFarland at the same Dec. 28 burglary that resulted in the new charges against Atwood.

McFarland and Atwood sat in a car as another woman lured a homeowner to a backyard with a story about wanting to buy a trailer, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. McFarland and Atwood were then able to steal guns, money, a laptop computer, two horse saddles and a makeup bag, authorities said.

Neither McFarland nor the second woman, Allison Boudreaux, has been charged in that burglary.

Atwood, who also goes by Angela Marie Hill, has been charged in Nevada with attempted murder in the shooting of a gym operator who was wounded in the head when authorities say she foiled an attempt by Atwood and McFarland to steal her vehicle in West Wendover.

Atwood and McFarland face other counts in Nevada: kidnapping of the gym teacher, possession of a stolen vehicle, conspiracy and being fugitives from justice.

In Utah, Atwood faces three burglary charges for what authorities describe as a team effort at the Mount Pleasant home of Lynn and Leslie Prothero, who were able to identify the suspects from booking photographs.

Boudreaux said Atwood instructed her to keep Leslie Prothero outdoors discussing the sale of the trailer while Atwood and McFarland “went through the house to steal things,” according to court documents.

The affidavit, meanwhile, offered a new timeline for the killing of LeRoy and Ann Fullwood. Authorities have said they found the couple dead Dec. 31, but case files suggest the murder took place a day earlier.

Authorities believe the Fullwoods’ house was ransacked Dec. 28, the same day the other house was burglarized.

“The involvement of Angela Atwood and Allison Boudreaux in the burglary of the Fullwood home is under active and ongoing investigation,” according to an affidavit.
