Man arrested in barracks death at Colo. Army post

FORT CARSON, Colo. (AP) – A combat engineer at Fort Carson has been arrested and charged in the slaying of a food operations specialist in the barracks at the Colorado Army post, officials said Friday.
Sgt. Vincinte L. Jackson, 40, is being held on suspicion of premeditated murder and murder in the death of 28-year-old Brandy Fonteneaux of Houston, according to an announcement and documents released by the post. Authorities found Fonteneaux’s body Jan. 8 in the barracks where she lived.
Charging documents say Fonteneaux died from being choked and stabbed with a knife sometime between Jan. 6 and Jan. 8.
Jackson is with the 576th Engineer Company, 4th Engineer Battalion. Officials declined to release additional information, including Jackson’s hometown, because of the charges. It was unclear whether he had been appointed a military attorney.
Jackson has been in military custody since Jan. 20.
Agents from the Army Criminal Investigation Command investigated the case.
KKTV-TV in Colorado Springs previously quoted Fonteneaux’s family as saying she was stabbed and found unclothed. The family has declined to speak to The Associated Press on the record.
Fonteneaux held the rank of specialist and had been in the Army two years. She was a food operations specialist in the 4th Engineer Battalion.
