PENSACOLA, Florida (AP) – A federal grand jury has charged a homeless man with firebombing a Pensacola abortion clinic.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office reported Thursday that 41-year-old Bobby Joe Rogers has been indicted on charges of arson and damaging a reproductive health facility.
Rogers remains in federal custody following his Jan. 5 arrest. Authorities say he’s responsible for a fire that destroyed the American Family Planning Clinic on Jan. 1. Anti-abortion violence at the clinic goes back nearly 30 years.
Authorities say Rogers told investigators shortly after his arrest that he intentionally set the fire around New Year’s Eve by filling a beer bottle with gasoline and using an old shirt as a wick. No injuries were reported in the fire.
