Dignity Health offers free virtual urgent care for COVID-19 symptoms

PHOENIX — In order to help health care providers meet demand while reducing potential transmission of the coronavirus, Dignity Health in Arizona is offering a free virtual urgent care for those experiencing mild to moderate symptoms of the virus.

The service – Virtual Care Anywhere – is intended to be a safe and convenient way for people to speak to a medical professional without needing to visit a physical location.

Board-certified doctors and nurse practitioners can provide consultation, diagnosis and treatment through video chat or over the phone, according to the website.

People can access the virtual urgent care online, via an app in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, or by calling 855-356-8053 to request an appointment.

The usual fee of $35 per visit can be waived by using the code “COVID19”.

This service is recommended for patients experiencing less-severe symptoms, which include a low-grade fever, a cough, or shortness of breath

A virtual care provider will then contact the patient once they are available, typically within 15-30 minutes, according to a press release. However, high demand may result in longer wait times.

“Virtual urgent care visits are one way we will help patients with COVID-19 symptoms assess their options for treatment or testing,” said Keith Frey, MD, Chief Physician Executive for Dignity Health in Arizona. “Virtual visits allow for timely care delivery without putting other patients or our clinicians at risk for contracting the virus. While it’s not intended to replace in-person care visits, it will help reduce patient volumes at care sites so we can serve those who need care the most.”

People with severe symptoms of the virus, such as a high fever or difficulty breathing, should call 911 or visit their nearest health care facility.

Arizona Health Director Dr. Cara Christ this week said models are projecting that Arizona COVID-19 cases could peak in April, with hospitalizations peaking in May.

As of Saturday morning, 773 cases of COVID-19 have been reported statewide. Only one county – Greenlee – has not reported a positive test.
