Wreck on NB I-17 near Sunset Point causes major delays for holiday weekend traffic

PHOENIX — A wreck involving a semitruck blocked the right lane of northbound I-17 near Sunset Point on Friday caused major delays for drivers heading north for the holiday weekend, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 5:20 p.m. near milepost 252, with heavy delays stretching down to milepost 225, just south of Anthem, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Delays began to ease on the I-17 around 9:50 p.m., with moderate delays remaining between New River and Cordes Lake.

ADOT advised northbound travelers to consider delaying their trips until the backup clears.
