ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd bringing Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour to Phoenix

PHOENIX — A century’s worth of Southern rock greatness is coming to Phoenix next year when ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd team up for a North American tour.
The Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour is set to hit Ak-Chin Pavilion on Aug. 13.
Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday, with presales starting Tuesday.
Both bands are in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Lynyrd Skynyrd will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of “Pronounced ‘Lĕh-‘nérd ‘Skin-‘nérd,” one of the greatest debut albums in music history. The 1973 release features some of rock’s greatest anthems, including “Tuesday’s Gone,” “Simple Man” and the all-time epic “Free Bird.”
“It’s about the legacy of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and what it stands for, what the fans are all about,” singer Johnny Van Zant said in a press release.

ZZ Top came through the Valley earlier this month, playing Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale. “That Little Ol’ Band From Texas” released its debut album in 1971 and put out a steady stream of hits in its first decade, with classic rock staples such as “La Grange,” “Tush” and “Cheap Sunglasses.”
While the trio’s blues-based music was never glitzy, they had the visual flair and humor to become superstars when MTV was king in the ’80s, with hits such as “Gimme All Your Lovin’,” “Legs” and “Sharp Dressed Man.”
Uncle Kracker will open the show in Phoenix.
