PHOENIX – Two people were injured in a wrong-way freeway crash Tuesday night near Phoenix and two more were hurt trying to avoid the wreckage, authorities said.

The accident shut down eastbound lanes of U.S. 60 close to Gold Canyon, east of Mesa, from around 9 p.m. until shortly before 2 a.m.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said a vehicle going in the wrong direction hit another vehicle head-on near milepost 206 in Pinal County. Shortly after that, a driver in a truck overcorrected to steer clear of the smashed vehicles. The truck rolled over.

No one’s injuries were life-threatening, but all were taken to a hospital, DPS said.

No other information was made available.
