Woman gives birth in vehicle on metro Phoenix freeway

PHOENIX — A woman gave birth Thursday morning in a vehicle on an East Valley freeway, authorities said.

The child arrived before state troopers arrived on the scene just after 7:30 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The miracle of birth occurred in a Kia Sportage stopped in the gore area of the westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway at Guadalupe Road in Mesa.

The mother and baby were taken to a Gilbert hospital in good condition, DPS said.

No other details were immediately available.
