PHOENIX – The Wildflower School in Goodyear won a national education award last week along with a cash prize of $50,000.

The National Institute for Excellence in Teaching awarded the school the 2019 NIET Founder’s Award during a March 22 ceremony in New Orleans.

The annual award goes to one school that best implements NIET’s principles, according to a press release.

“Wildflower School’s commitment to educational excellence and to cultivating the knowledge, skills and experiences that prepare young people for a productive future makes it a worthy recipient of the 2019 NIET Founder’s Award,” NIET Chairman and Founder Lowell Milken said in the release.

“Research and personal experience tell us that investing in people makes a difference. This belief is at the heart of NIET’s work over the past two decades and is carried out in Wildflower’s classrooms every day.”

The K-8 school is located in the Avondale Elementary School District and has been working with NIET for the past eight years.

The Wildflower School has “created a positive school culture that has translated into gains in student achievement,” according to the release.

NIET partners with schools, districts, states and universities to ensure all students have access to talented teachers, according to the release.

The organization’s initiatives have impacted more than 250,000 educators and 2.5 million students.
