PHOENIX — Motorists will have to contend with several weekend freeway closures and restrictions across metro Phoenix as construction resumes after the Labor Day holiday break.
A slew of restrictions are related to the ongoing Interstate 10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for Sept. 6-9.
On the mainline, westbound I-10 will be closed from US 60 (Superstition Freeway) in Tempe to the I-17 “Split” interchange west of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday. The ramps from Elliot and Baseline roads to westbound I-10 will also be off-limits.
Additionally, the Broadway Curve work will impact traffic on westbound US 60, with the highway reduced to three lines from Mill Avenue to I-10 and the on-ramps at McClintock Drive, Rural Road and Mill Avenue closed.
🚧 I-17 NB closed at Jomax Road.
🚧 I-10 WB closed between US 60 and the I-17 "Split."

Furthermore, the ramp from University Drive to southbound State Route 143 (Hohokam Expressway) will be closed.
Westbound I-10 drivers can avoid the Broadway Curve closure by heading east on the Loop 202 Santan Freeway or US 60 and then taking the northbound Loop 101 Price Freeway and westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway toward Phoenix.
Travelers heading to the West Valley can take the westbound/northbound Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway to reconnect with I-10 near 59th Avenue in Phoenix.
More weekend freeway closures
Up in north Phoenix, northbound I-17 will be closed at Jomax Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for pavement improvements.
Vehicles can stay on the access road to reenter I-17, which will be restricted to one lane from Jomax Road to Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive.
ADOT says impacted drivers should avoid detouring onto the streets designed for local traffic in the area.
The list of full weekend freeway closures also includes the stretch of the westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway from Williams Field Road to Gilbert Road. The roadway and on-ramp at Higley Road will be off-limits from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a longterm widening project.
For a detour, motorists can use Germann or Williams Field roads.
Other potential slowdowns
Three other construction projects could impact Valley freeway traffic this weekend.
In Mesa, the eastbound US 60 will be reduced to three lanes from Dobson Road to Gilbert Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for pavement maintenance. All US 60 ramps along the stretch will also be off-limits.
In Phoenix, the southbound SR 51 ramps to the eastbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway and westbound I-10 will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Sunday for bridge maintenance. SR 51 traffic can exit before or after the closure and take surface streets to connect with eastbound Loop 202 or westbound I-10.
And in Scottsdale, Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard will be blocked in both directions at the Loop 101 Pima Freeway from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for lane striping.
All times are subject to change.
