PHOENIX – Just in time for the holidays, Gilbert’s Water Tower Plaza is ready for the spotlight again after a yearlong makeover.

The East Valley town will hold a grand reopening celebration highlighted by the annual holiday tradition of lighting the iconic water tower.

The free event is scheduled to run from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with the water tower lights switching to holiday mode at 7 p.m.

The downtown tower will then light up in festive colors every half hour from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. nightly through Jan. 6.

In addition to the light show, Monday’s celebration will feature a variety of family-friendly activities, including a synthetic ice rink.

Guests can also enjoy holiday crafts, snow activities, inflatables, food trucks and live carolers as they get a first look at the Water Tower Plaza enhancements.

What changes were made to Water Tower Plaza?

The park opened in 2008 at Page Avenue and Ash Street, just west of Gilbert Road, in the town’s bustling Heritage District.

With the underground infrastructure in need of significant repairs, it was closed for renovations on Jan. 8.

Since then, crews have been working to remake the space with a shaded, water-efficient splash pad and water wall, a shaded picnic grove, upgraded event spaces, improved landscaping and lighting, and new restrooms.

We want to hear from you.
