Valley nonprofit Circle the City gets $6.1 million to expand health care for homeless

PHOENIX — Circle the City has received a $6.1 million grant for expansion of short-term health care services for those experiencing homelessness in the East Valley and downtown Phoenix.
The funding will come from Maricopa County in partnership with the Arizona Alliance for Community Health.
Grant money will go toward two projects benefiting the Valley nonprofit.
About $5.6 million will be used to build, purchase or lease an East Valley medical respite care center.
The center will be the third in the Valley, with Circle the City operating two in Phoenix.
People can get a bed, meals, daily medical care and other supportive services recovering at the facility from a serious illness or injury.
The remaining money — about $500,000 — will be put into expanding Circle the City’s Downtown Family Health Center with more exam rooms and medical staff.
The center offers homeless patients primary and preventive outpatient health care.
“We are grateful to the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors for granting us this much needed funding,” CEO Kim Despres said in a press release.
“It will go a long way towards helping us meet the health care needs of a rapidly growing number of people experiencing homelessness in our community.”
