PHOENIX — With virtual learning still in effect in many schools around the Valley, Toyota is helping to fulfill the needs of Phoenix-area students who lack the technological necessities for online schooling.

The Toyota Foundation announced Thursday it is donating $150,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Valley, and $50,000 to the Tempe Impacting Education Foundation.

“Toyota is proud to be a contributing member of the Chandler and greater Phoenix area communities,” Maria Brink, general manager of Toyota Financial Services’ Customer Service Center in Chandler, said in a press release.

“We continue to be vested in ensuring young people in the area have the tools they need to pursue their education.”

Boys and Girls Clubs of the Valley serves more than 16,000 kids K-12 each year, providing them with academic help and social development. The club began offering distance learning programs recently for students who may not be able to complete their schooling at home.

Twenty-two schools across the Tempe Elementary School District will benefit from the donation made to the education foundation, as the school looks to return to in-person learning.

The donations will fund Wi-Fi access points, mobile Wi-Fi devices, laptop computers and software licenses for students in need.

The grants are part of more than $3 million in donations Toyota has issued to support students, building upon the organization’s COVID-19 relief efforts and e-learning education programs.
