PHOENIX — A California man has been sentenced to 2.25 years behind bars for organizing a TJ Maxx retail theft scheme in Arizona, authorities announced on Tuesday.

Bay Horn, 35, defrauded the retail chain out of $26,000, according to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.

Horn’s organized retail theft scheme took place over one month in 2023, prosecutors said.

Horn and co-conspirators stole items from TJ Maxx, Home Goods and other stores by hiding the goods in bags. They walked past the cashiers and before returning the items to cashiers and asking for returns, prosecutors said.

Horn pleaded guilty to organized retail theft and fraud schemes on July 29.

After serving his sentence in the Arizona Department of Corrections, he will spend four years on probation.

He was also ordered to pay $11,016 to TJ Maxx for his crimes, prosecutors said.
