Tips for renting out your home during Super Bowl

The Better Business Bureau of Arizona and a Valley realtor have good advice to help you avoid a fumble when renting out your home for the upcoming Super Bowl.

Football will be here to have a good time, and that could include drinking, smoking and other adult activities inside your house. If that not an issue, experts say proceed with as much knowledge about the process you can gather.

“You’re dealing with people from all over the country, all over the world. You need to do as much research as possible,” said realtor Jim King. “Get a referral for a decent property management company, that’s the best way to do it. There’s more risk if you do it on your own.”

The BBB encourages homeowners to have potential tenants fill out an application so the homeowner can conduct a background and credit check and secure a deposit.

Homeowners are advised to do a walk-through before the agreement and inventory property. A final walk-through should be conducted before the tenant leaves. Pictures and video come in handy if any problems arise.

One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make when temporarily renting out their home is forgetting to contact their homeowners’ insurance company.

“If they break your things or God forbid the house burns down, you want to make sure all that would be covered,” said King.

We want to hear from you.
