PHOENIX — A third suspect in connection with Saturday morning’s fatal shooting of a Salt River police officer has been taken into custody.

Investigators with the FBI and Salt River Police Department said the incident began just after three in the morning when the officer, identified as Jair Cabrera, tried to stop a vehicle in the area of Pima and Chaparral Roads.

One of the three people inside the vehicle opened fire and hit Cabrera, who later died at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital.

Two other suspects were apprehended by officials earlier in the day.
