PHOENIX – “The Atomic Rocketeer,” an award-winning documentary, will screen in the hometown of its Scottsdale-based producer next month.
The movie uses rare footage, photographs and declassified military documents to tell the story of Wernher von Braun, a controversial German engineer.
Von Braun helped create the V-2 rocket for the Nazis, but he surrendered to the U.S. after Germany fell during World War II. He went on to help develop weapons for the U.S. military and spacecraft for NASA.
The documentary was produced by Larry L. Sheffield, the founder and first chairman of Scottsdale-based Goldwater Bank. It was directed by Trent DiGiulio.
When will ‘The Atomic Rocketeer’ play in Scottsdale?
The Harkins Theatres Shea 14 will show “The Atomic Rocketeer” twice daily Nov. 1-7, with 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. showtimes.
According to the film’s website, it has earned more than 20 national and international film festival awards.
“I am honored at the widespread praise ‘The Atomic Rocketeer’ has received so far,” Sheffield said in a press release. “It’s an even greater honor to have my work in my hometown theater, and I hope all come out to see this rare historical film.”
