PHOENIX – Raise your glass to a downtown Tempe brewery that was named best in the United States at a recent international beer competition.

The top national honor was one of four awards claimed by Pedal Haus Brewery at the eighth annual Copa Cervezas de América, a competition for beer makers in Latin America and North America.

“We are honored to have received gold medals recognizing Pedal Haus as the best brewery in all of North America,” Julian Wright, founder of the Mill Avenue brewery, said in a press release.

“We have enjoyed sharing our lineup of beers with Copa Cervezas de América and are thrilled by the international award medals we have earned this year for our handcrafted, Arizona-made beer.”

Judges picked medalists from a wide range of beer styles and handed out best-in-nation titles for five countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and the U.S.

In addition to its Brewery of the United States victory, Pedal Haus notched two gold medals and a bronze for its concoctions. White Rabbit IPA won the White & Belgian IPA category, and Biére Blanche earned gold in Witbier. Day Drinker Light Lager was named the third-best entry for the American Light Lager category.

Day Drinker Lager is Pedal Haus’ most celebrated brew, having now won seven awards, according to the release.

Pedal Haus’ haul came in the first year it entered the Copa Cervezas de América, which is based out of Chile.

Brazil’s Cervejaria Backer was the top overall winner, earning the prestigious Brewery of the Americas award.

According to the event’s website, the August competition drew 1,844 beer entries from 459 breweries in 16 countries.
