PHOENIX — Tempe is holding public meetings next week to get input on adding 500 housing units on city-owned lots along Apache Boulevard.

The units, which would be apartments, live-work spaces and townhomes, would be spread across four parcels and be offered to rent or own.

The city is working with developers on three projects and is seeking a partner for the fourth, according to a Tempe press release.

Tempe is hosting the hourlong virtual public meetings on Wednesday at 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

“We’re excited to see these projects move forward to increase affordable and workforce housing in Tempe and need community input to help us shape the future of Apache Boulevard,” Mayor Corey Woods said in the release.

Tempe bought the parcels with city general funding and CDBG/HOME funding.

Here’s where the four parcels are located and their details:

  • 1235 E. Lemon St.- Five-story building with 68 affordable housing units, two-story parking garage
  • 1412 E. Apache Blvd. – Five-story building with 80 affordable live-work units for artists, ground floor gallery/commercial space, four-story parking garage
  • 2320 E. Apache Blvd. – Up to 250 units within a five-story apartment building and three-story, for-purchase townhome complex, garage parking and greenbelt
  • 2431 E. Apache Blvd. – 106 affordable units, surface parking and open space for combined vacant land and Watson’s Flower Shop complex

A fifth parcel on Apache Boulevard not owned by the city — the Watson’s Flower Shop complex — are part of redevelopment plans.

Remediation work is being done on all the parcels to ensure they are shovel ready for development.
