Tempe discount movie theater reopens with new look, $3.50 tickets

Dec 9, 2021, 11:07 AM | Updated: 11:08 am

PHOENIX – A Tempe discount theater complex will welcome movie-goers this weekend for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With all tickets at $3.50, Pollack Tempe Cinemas at McClintock and Elliot roads is finally set to reopen its curtains, with Friday-Sunday operations.

The venue specializes in movies that debuted somewhat recently but aren’t brand new releases, as well as older favorites.

The reopening weekend lineup consists of “Fast and Furious 9,” “Cruella,” “Addams Family 2,” “Free Guy,” “Dear Evan Hanson,” “Jungle Cruise” and “Elf.”

The facility won’t look the same as it did before the closure after upgrades costing more than $1 million were completed.

“You will notice the changes from the moment you pull into the parking lot,” company president Michael Pollack said in a press release.

“It has been one of the most anticipated reopenings from 2020 and I can assure you it will have been worth the wait.”

Seating will now be assigned after the theaters were equipped with recliners.

The exterior of the building was redesigned with a large clock between two large marquees as a nod to the city hall background of “Back to the Future.”

All six theaters, the snack bar and lobby area were renovated.

Also new are online ticketing and a self-service ticket kiosk at the venue.

“I am very proud of this project and we have all worked very hard to bring back the classic theater of yesterday combined with an extremely modern touch that has never been seen before at a neighborhood cinema,” Pollack said.
