PHOENIX — A suspect was injured after a shooting with U.S. Marshals and Mesa police officers, authorities said Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. when marshals were attempting to serve a warrant for Carlos Madrid inside a home near Gilbert Road and Southern Avenue in Mesa.

Mesa police said Madrid came to a window with a handgun, which led to the shooting.

Madrid then barricaded himself inside the home, causing the Mesa Police SWAT team to respond.

After two hours, Madrid surrendered without further incident, police said.

Madrid was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Madrid wasn’t shot during the altercation.

He was charged with four counts of aggravated assault and one count of resisting arrest.

It was the second shooting of the year involving Mesa police this year and 11th overall by Valley law enforcement, according to KTAR News 92.3 FM research.
