Suspect in beating of cellphone store worker indicted on multiple counts

PHOENIX — A man suspected of brutally beating a Phoenix cellphone store worker was served two indictments from a Maricopa County grand jury, prosecutors announced Monday.
The incident occurred June 4 at the Cricket Wireless store at Bethany Home Road and 43rd Avenue, authorities said.
Michael Cook, 33, was arrested on June 8 and booked into the Maricopa County Jail.
The first indictment is for the alleged attack of the cellphone store worker, while the other is for an alleged offense committed in Feb. 2021.

Cook in the first indictment has been charged with multiple felonies, including aggravated assault and robbery, while the other indictment is a felony charge of misconduct involving weapons.
“Let it be clear that violent crime will not be tolerated in our community,” Interim Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in the release.
“Innocent people have a right to work and live in a safe community where violent offenders are held accountable.”
