Salvation Army opens heat relief stations in Valley as temperatures soar

PHOENIX — The Salvation Army has opened 11 heat relief stations across eight metro Phoenix cities with temperatures expected to surpass 110 degrees beginning Wednesday.

The indoor cooling and hydration stations became operational Wednesday and will remain running through Friday, the charity said.

An excessive heat warning is in effect for the Phoenix area until Friday at 8 p.m. with Wednesday’s high forecast expected to reach 110 degrees before back-to-back days of 112-degree heat.

The stations will be open from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Phoenix sites:

• Citadel Corps Community Center, 628 N. Third Ave.

• Maryvale Corps Community Center, 4318 W. Clarendon Ave.

• Ray & Joan Kroc Center Phoenix, 1375 E. Broadway Road

• Family Services Office, 2707 E. Van Buren St., Bldg. 2

Sites in the East Valley:

• Apache Junction – Corps Community Center, 605 E. Broadway Ave.

• Chandler – Corps Community Center, 85 E. Saragosa St.

• Mesa – Corps Community Center, 241 E. Sixth St.

•Tempe – Corps Community Center, 40 E. University Drive

Sites in the West Valley:

• Avondale – Estrella Mountain Corps Community Center, 11 N. Third Ave.

• Glendale – Corps Community Center, 6010 W. Northern Ave.

• Surprise – North West Valley Corps Community Center, 17420 N. Avenue of the Arts Blvd.
