PHOENIX — A Pinal County Republican on Monday became the first candidate to announce her intention to run for Arizona attorney general in 2022.

Tiffany Shedd said in a press release she is running for the position because she is not satisfied with policies that affect the southern border of Arizona.

“I’m running for attorney general because I’ve never seen anything as dangerous as what Arizona is facing right now,” Shedd said in the release.

“We need a conservative attorney general who will hold the line and protect the people of Arizona against Washington’s dangerous socialist policies.”

Shedd, a cotton farmer and lawyer, ran for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District in the past two election cycles but has never been elected to office.

Shedd finished a distant third in 2018’s three-way Republican primary. She won the nomination in 2020 but lost to incumbent Democrat Tom O’Halleran by 3 points.

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, a Republican, was elected in 2014 and can’t run for reelection because of term limits.
