PHOENIX — Phoenix’s daily heat streak record is nearing 20 after another mark fell on Friday.
The thermometer at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which the National Weather Service (NWS) uses for the city’s official records, hit 103 degrees at 1:16 p.m. The previous record of 102 degrees was set in 1991.
Phoenix has broken daily heat records 16 times and tied two more since the streak began on Sept. 24. Prior to this streak, Phoenix had never had more than seven consecutive days of record heat.
When will the daily heat streak record in Phoenix end?
The end could be near for record high temperatures in Phoenix.
High temperatures are forecast to remain about even to daily records through Monday before a possible disruption comes Tuesday.
The high for that day is forecast to be 97 degrees. The record high for the day is 103 degrees, achieved in 1996.
If the streak reaches Tuesday, it’ll triple the previous record mark and reach 21 days.
An excessive heat warning, which spanned a record 14 days and was extended multiple times, finally expired three days ago.
