Police investigating homicide of 42-year-old man in south Phoenix

PHOENIX — Police are investigating the homicide of a 42-year-old man who was found shot in his front yard in south Phoenix, authorities said Saturday.

At around 4 a.m., officers responded to a home near 42nd Street and Southern Avenue and found Efren Cayeros in the front yard of his residence, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release.

Fire personnel arrived and pronounced Cayeros dead at the scene.

During the investigation, witnesses told officers they saw a suspect leave the area prior to police arriving.

The investigation remains ongoing.
