PHOENIX — Police said a man was arrested after he allegedly fired a gun at officers during a foot chase in downtown Phoenix on Sunday evening.

The Phoenix Police Department said Anthony Jones, 30, was booked into Maricopa County Jail on Monday night on charges that include aggravated assault on a police officer.

Police said in a press release that officers working on an unrelated call near First and Roosevelt streets at about 8:30 p.m. were approached by Anthony Jones, 30, who was armed with a gun and asked them a question before walking away.

After finishing the call, the officers tried to talk to Jones again but he ran away.

Officers chased him on foot and he shot at least one round in their direction, police said.

Jones continued to fire the weapon while running away from the officers, police said.

Detectives said they found evidence of gunfire in several locations during the ensuing investigation.
