PHOENIX —  The Phoenix Police Department is looking for a suspect after a man was shot and killed when walking into his apartment late Thursday night.

Police said they responded to an apartment complex near Camelback Road and 19th Avenue around 10:10 p.m. for a shooting when they learned a suspect approached Malik Recasner, 21, standing at the door of his apartment, demanding money while holding him at gunpoint.

Recasner refused to comply and attempted to enter his apartment when he was shot, according to authorities.

The suspect entered the apartment and proceeded to take property, while a woman living inside the residence hid. She was not injured.

The suspect fled before police arrived.
