Nicholas Cowan, 35, allegedly opened fire on two police officers, including Bruce-Jones, after he pulled up to the north Phoenix gas station.
Another officer returned fire, striking and wounding Cowan before he fled the scene.
Police say Cowan received help from multiple people as he eluded authorities for about 80 hours before the manhunt ended in Scottsdale.
Three people have been charged with helping Cowan while he was on the run.
Cowan remains hospitalized but faces multiple charges, including two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
