Phoenix Parks and Recreation asks public for ideas, feedback on how to improve facilities

PHOENIX — The city of Phoenix is working on a new master plan to improve its Parks and Recreation Department.
The plan will chart the course of the department’s development and management goals over the next 10 years.
In order to make sure the plan reflects public needs, city officials are urging the public to engage with the project by sharing their thoughts.
Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said the master plan process will also focus on sustainability issues, such as water conservation.
“Our parks and recreation facilities touch every person in our community, providing spaces for connection, recreation and tranquility,” Gallego said in a news release. “Launching our master plan is a crucial step in ensuring that these amenities remain active, cared for and accessible for future generations.”

How to share thoughts on Phoenix’s new master plan for parks, recreation
The Phoenix Parks and Recreation System Master Plan website has a series of resources that make it easy for the community to share their thoughts.
Visitors can use the site to share their future hopes and ideas. It includes links to surveys, upcoming public meetings and interactive workshops where they can provide feedback to city leaders about their desired changes for neighborhood parks, like more shade or extra games in recreation areas.
Don’t have time to attend in-person meetings? There’s also an easy way to share feedback online.

A new interactive social map allows users to find specific parks, pools or other areas they want to share their thoughts on. Users can click on the location they want to influence and write notes about ways they think it can improve.
Parks and Recreation Director Cynthia Aguilar said her department’s facilities can improve the health and well-being of Phoenix residents.
“Our goal is not only to create a beautiful park system but also one that meets the needs and desires of our diverse community,” Aguilar said in the release. “Meaningful feedback from residents is crucial in achieving this goal.”
Phoenix leaders expect the final master plan to be completed in 2025.
